چکیده
Accepted for publication 24 November 1993 Case report A 55-year-old white man presented with an 8 month history of poor vision in the left eye. He had a history of mild asthma and 2 years previously had suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage caused by a left middle cerebral artery aneurysm which was subsequently clipped. There was no visual disturbance associated with the subarachnoid haemorrhage. On examination the right eye was normal but left visual acuity was reduced to counting fingers. Funduscopy revealed a left subtotal retinal detachment, involving the macula, associated with two small retinal breaks in the inferotemporal periphery. Retinal reattachment surgery was performed under general anaesthesia. A 3600 conjunctival limbal peritomy was performed, the retinal holes were localised, and transcleral cryopexy to the retinal breaks was performed. Subretinal fluid was drained below the lateral rectus muscle and

Complications of Encircling Bands-Prevention and Management
Encircling bands are a simple and efficient technique of scleral buckling, commonly used alone, in conjunction with segmental scleral buckles, and in conjunction with trans pars plana vitrectomy (TPPV) to treat rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) by closing retinal breaks and relieve vitreoretinal traction. Complications associated with encircling bands are relatively rare, but can include ...
متن کاملAnalysis of changes in corneal shape and refraction following scleral buckling surgery.
PURPOSE A prospective study was performed to investigate changes in corneal shape and axial length following scleral buckling surgery. METHODS We investigated the changes in corneal shape, refraction, and axial length following scleral buckling surgery in 24 patients who underwent local buckling and 14 patients who underwent encircling with additional segmental buckling. The corneal shape was...
متن کاملEVects of scleral buckling and encircling procedures on human optic nerve head and retinochoroidal circulation
Aims—To study the eVects of segmental scleral buckling and encircling procedures on tissue circulation in the human optic nerve head (ONH) and choroid and retina. Methods—Using the laser speckle method, the normalised blur (NB) value, a quantitative index of tissue blood velocity, was measured every 0.125 seconds and averaged over three pulses in the optic nerve head (NBONH) and choroid and ret...
متن کاملChanges in higher-order aberrations after scleral buckling surgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.
PURPOSE To evaluate changes in higher-order aberrations (HOAs) after scleral buckling surgery for the treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RD). DESIGN Prospective observational comparative case series. PARTICIPANTS The study included 67 eyes of 67 rhegmatogenous RD patients undergoing scleral buckling surgery, and the fellow normal eyes comprised the control group. Twenty-seven e...
متن کاملComplications associated with vortex vein damage in scleral buckling surgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.
PURPOSE To further understand postoperative complications after vortex vein damage during scleral buckling surgery. METHODS The records of 34 patients (34 eyes) with vortex vein damage during scleral buckling surgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment were reviewed and compared with the records of 410 eyes undergoing similar surgery without vortex vein damage. RESULTS Postoperative compl...
